How Will My Group Benefit?
4 Things All Americans Want...
and how the Principles of Liberty Course gives them those things
1- They want to truly understand government and economics.
For the first time in many people's lives, they honestly want to understand what were arguably the most boring subjects in school: government and economics (was that on purpose?). That's why they are already reading and trying to inform themselves. The Principles of Liberty course gives structure to their reading, arms them with the tools to be effectively self-educating and gives them a foundation for the rest of their study.
2- It is fun and exciting to learn with a group of friends.
It's hard to study alone, even when motivation is high. By leading your group through the course, you create deadlines, accountability and synergy for others. The result is greater unity among your group members and a common language based on principles. This forms a foundation for future action because you internalize the principles and use them as a gauge for everything your group does.
3- They want to be able to convince others of the truth.
They talk politics with people all the time, but rarely do they persuade others to their side. Most of us never developed our skills of diplomacy so we often find ourselves at a loss. Group discussion of principles changes all that.
Because of how the course is structured, by the time your group has completed any one of the class discussions, they have interacted with the material at least 3 times—reading it, writing thoughts and questions about it and discussing it. This greatly improves retention and understanding of the principles.
The focus on quality discussion forces them to learn how to express themselves more diplomatically. The result is an enhanced ability to take heated political debate back to timeless governmental principles, making group members more influential in the community. And that's exactly what we all want!
4- They want to know what they can do personally and as a group to return to the Constitution and liberty.
When the Principles of Liberty course is used in conjunction with the Discussion Group Leader's Manual, a logical progression from passive listener to active participant ensues. As the group members learn to come prepared to participate in quality discussion and to contribute their own thoughts, they will begin to see that they have an important role to play in your group and in the future of America. They will learn that they have much to give. They'll feel not only their personal power but their personal responsibility to do more. This is the key to generating increased support and volunteerism!
The new ownership they feel in their education and in your group will inspire them to brainstorm new ways that your group can make an impact. During the last class of the series, your group members will share with each other their personal plans of action and they will work together to create a group plan of action. In response to the question, "What can our group do to promote liberty?" new solutions with be found.
